MiIncident Triggers

The MiIncident suite consists of six triggers, which are used to create your company’s incident protection program. Each trigger has been developed to cover specific circumstances that impact individual’s lives. These triggers are designed to complement each other, for example a Gadget program could be combined with elements of Travel Inconvenience to offer additional coverage in the event of laptop damage as a direct result of rough baggage handling.

Travel Inconvenience supports travellers in the event of disruption beyond their control that incurs unaccounted for financial outgoing. This could be a delayed flight where an individual needs to buy food while waiting, lost and delayed luggage after a journey that causes a missed connection. Gadget covers accidental damage to tech product components, unexpected mechanical breakdown, extended warranty, and theft. We protect a wide range of tech products including mobile phones, point of sale (POS) devices, IoT devices, cameras, drones, sports equipment – and we’re always open to discussing more tech categories! The Gadget trigger provides payments that can be put towards repair or replacement of covered products so that people can get back to using their gadgets as required. Read about Gadget.

Sensor is a warranty coverage linked to IoT sensor devices. Sensor is embedded in the service warranty of specialised devices for monitoring water leakage unrelated to weather events, providing reimbursement for water damage and loss for protected buildings. With the influx of flow and leak detecting IoT sensors for various applications – such as gas flow, electrical current, and pressure sensors – the Sensor trigger can be adapted to meet the requirements of your market.

Porch Package Piracy is a service guarantee that can be embedded into IoT devices such as security cameras and smart doorbells. If a package is left within sight of a covered device and consequently stolen, subscribed customers can claim for reimbursement to pay for replacing the package. With people’s shopping habits increasingly moving online, package deliveries on porches have quickly become a common sight. Mobility is there for drivers and vehicle companies when they are faced with disruption. Whether a damaged vehicle needs quick repair, a vehicle is targeted and parts stolen, or the vehicle itself is stolen – the Mobility trigger enables quick payments to get drivers back on the road.

We have partnered with a leading financial bank by providing digital reinsurance to their local insurance partner, covering mobile phones with an innovative embedded micro insurance solution, giving owners peace of mind in the event of mobile phone damage and theft.

Problem

The financial bank partners with a local telco to offer a credit card to customers when purchasing a mobile phone through the telco. They wanted to drive acquisition of this credit product and increase customer satisfaction for those that signed up.

The bank saw an opportunity to offer opt-in extended warranty and device protection as an incentive to sign up to their credit card.

Solution

We worked with the bank to tailor our MiIncident Gadget coverage to their specific needs, covering their enrolled credit card customers when mobile phone damage occurs or a device is stolen.

Implementation

Our digital reinsurance solution is provided to the bank’s local insurance partner. The solution is embedded into the bank’s extended warranty.

When device damage occurs, customers can quickly raise a claim through their credit account and receive a repair via dedicated repair centers, reducing the time spent without their device in full working order. Or in the event of theft, customers can receive a payout to put toward replacing their stolen mobile phone.

Garantili Teknoloji is a Cell Phone Renewal Center, based in Turkey. Garantili saw an opportunity to improve the mobile phone insurance process for their customers by combining a mobile application, artificial intelligence, and microinsurance coverage enabling customers to create their own claims quickly and reduce the time that they are without their device.

Virtual i Technologies, based in Switzerland, developed an artificial intelligence powered mobile application that enables customers to prove device damage at point of claim. This system allows the customer to drive the claims process by providing information when required, speeding up the claims process.

MIC brings their specialist MiIncident digital reinsurance offering to our local Turkish insurance partner, supporting a tech-enabled offering for Garantili in the event of damage to a mobile phone, including screen and core internal components. This is MIC’s latest example of working with partners to support them in offering embedded microinsurance inside an IOT device, giving end-customers peace of mind and near-instant access to their coverage in the event of a claim.

IoT Loss Control Company boosts ESG credentials

InsureTEK is a company that offers loss control as a service to a wide range of property companies and REITs including multi-family resorts, hotels offices, and military properties. They source IOT sensors, and partners with Mastec – a Fortune 500 company – who perform local installations. Their services are provided via multi-year contracts.

We recently partnered with InsureTEK to develop an embedded microinsurance to include alongside their offering.

Problem

Our client wanted to launch a water leak reimbursement warranty program to enhance their service offering to 1000s of properties throughout the US and Europe, but found that they were unable to find an insurer in the market who was willing to find similar coverage in the marketplace.

Solution

MIC Global evaluated the client’s sensor technology and designed an embedded insurance warranty product customized to the prospective client’s loss-control as a service.

Implementation

The service warranty product was embedded into the monthly subscription cost of the IoT smart device product. Water loss/ damage reimbursement is then triggered when water is detected by the installed sensors. Customers are incentivized to choose our partner as their product comes with the added value of a service warranty to protect customers’ properties.

InsureTEK have installed around 1000 devices as of August 2022 across multiple properties. Within a short period of time, these devices have detected water leaks* which has led to thousands of dollars saved per year on the cost water, lowered energy bills and reduced the properties’ overall environmental impact and footprint.

InsureTEK recognised that there was a requirement within the property industry for greater water protection and monitoring, with owners facing challenges in sourcing the necessary equipment and data. In their endeavor to save gallons of water and reduce properties’ environmental impact, they developed a Sensor Enabled Loss Control as a Service (LCaaS) and ESG monitoring solution – billed as a monthly subscription – which includes IOT water sensors, financing, installation, warranty, monitoring, and mitigation.

IoT Smart Doorbell Manufacturer increases customer purchases

The global online shopping boom has given rise to a new wave of crime, dubbed ‘porch piracy’, with an estimated 43% of consumers in the US alone becoming the victim of package theft. Porch surveillance devices have proved to be a convenient solution to this issue.

We recently partnered with an IoT Smart Doorbell Device product manufacturer to create ‘Doorbell Insurance’, an embedded service warranty product, in order to set themselves apart from competition.

Problem

An IoT smart doorbell camera device manufacturing company wanted to close the loop on their product and offer a complete service to their customers. Their system notifies homeowners when someone is at their front door or on their porch. However, packages still go missing at an alarming rate. The client wanted to offer a complete service to set it apart from other providers. As a result, MIC Global came on board to help our client create a custom solution through the use of embedded insurance in order to add value.

Solution

MIC Global created a custom service warranty product dubbed ‘doorbell insurance’ which covers customers from the risks of porch piracy — the act of burglars stealing packages from front doors and porches.

Implementation

The service warranty product was embedded into the cost of the IoT smart device product. Thus, customers deciding between our partners’ doorbell camera device versus another brand are incentivized to choose our partners’ since it comes with the added value of a service warranty to protect customers from package theft.

MIC Global and Bikmo partner to enhance Cycle-To-Work Schemes in Austria

In this partnership, MIC Global brings their underwriting expertise, with the ability to create unique solutions for very specific, non-traditional use cases. Bikmo, a European-based insurtech that specializes in bicycle insurance, will control product sales as well as handle the claims process.

A Cycle to Work scheme is an initiative to promote healthier commutes to and from work while also reducing environmental pollution. It allows employers to loan bicycles (or advance a loan for the purchase of a bicycle) to employees as a tax-free benefit. It’s a win-win scenario. If employees are cycling to and from work, they’ll be healthier, and thus, less likely to take sick days. It also means employers can supply less car parking spaces, which reduces their costs and is also good for the environment. Lastly, for employees looking for an alternative to public transportation post-covid, cycling to work is a good option. It keeps employees active and happy.

In an effort to further boost the attractiveness of these cycle-to-work schemes in Austria, MIC and Bikmo have designed a service warranty product that is embedded into the bicycle loans given by employers. This insurance-based product allows employees to take their bicycle in for service annually, which is a great added benefit for them. It also gives peace of mind to employers, knowing that if an employee needs a repair or replacement for their bike, they are covered. In other words, the cost of an unexpected circumstance related to their bicycle will not be the reason an employee stops biking to work. Having a built-in warranty means they can take care of any of their bicycle servicing needs and be back in action quickly.

NAIROBI, KENYA (Aug. 4, 2021) – Hava Net Limited and MicroEnsure (now a part of MIC Global) have entered into a strategic partnership with the aim of providing digital insurance solutions to Hava’s corporate riders.

Hava is a technology-driven transportation solutions provider that offers online ride-hailing and delivery services in Kenya. Made by Kenyans, for Kenyans, Hava strives to balance both sides of the transportation equation – offering drivers a way to earn money and providing customers with access to an affordable transportation service. MIC Global and MotiSure partner to deliver digital Mobility Insurance

NAIROBI, KENYA (July 7, 2021) – MIC Global (MIC) and MotiSure are partnering to deliver a digital mobility insurance dubbed ‘MotiSure’.

In Kenya, road accidents are responsible for 3,000 fatalities and over 10,000 injuries every year. In fact, in 2020, road accidents accounted for 46% of the total deaths in Kenya. That number has risen from previous years – it was 26% in 2015.

As a result, MIC and MotiSure have partnered to create a new insurance product, Motisure, which will cover travelers and drivers during trips by embedding insurance into the cost of the trip. This will ensure passengers, drivers, and ride-sharers are covered in cases of death, disability, or hospitalization resulting from road accidents.

Our partnership’s first roll out of this solution will be through BuuPass, an online ticketing platform that has on-boarded all the major bus companies in the country.

By joining forces, MotiSure, MIC, and BuuPass are providing much needed protection to drivers, riders, and travelers by cushioning them against the unavoidable risks they face on the road, so when disaster strikes, they are able to bounce back swiftly.

MIC brings to the partnership its comprehensive trajectory and track record providing microinsurance, which MotiSure will leverage to distribute insurance products to its customers.
